Mets Skipper: Zack Wheeler Is A Starting Pitcher
7 years agoEarlier Wednesday, reports began to surface that New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler was to start the season in the bullpen. Now, comments directly from Mets manager Mickey Callaway arguably puts some water on that fire: “He’s definitely a starting pitcher,” Callaway said. While that may sound contradictory to the earlier news, it may reveal they are one in the same. The bullpen news was caveated by the phrase “to start the season.” It is entirely possible that the Mets want Wheeler to begin the year in the bullpen, only to get back into the rotation when they feel he’s ready. Callaway’s words certainly reinforce the notion that the team does want him in the rotation at some point. Either way, you’d be hard-pressed to use a draft pick on Wheeler this year with so much uncertainty.
