3 years agoDetroit Tigers relief pitcher Michael Fulmer (neck) is getting close to a return from the injured list, according to Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic. Stavenhagen reports that Fulmer met with manager AJ Hinch on Monday, and the team is deciding whether he will be activated soon or if he will get one more rehab outing with Triple-A Toledo. Fulmer has been out since the end of June with a right cervical spine strain, but before then he was 4-4 with six saves, a 4.05 ERA, 1.300 WHIP and 24.1 percent strikeout rate over 40 innings of work. Before he landed on the IL, Fulmer had been splitting time in the closer role with Gregory Soto, but it looks now like Soto may have a firm enough grasp on the job that Fulmer may not get many saves down the stretch.
