Michael Fulmer Will Get Second Opinion On Knee
6 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Michael Fulmer (knee) was diagnosed with a meniscus tear, ruling him out for the rest of the season. It was initially thought that surgery would be imminent, but sources now say that Fulmer will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday. If Andrews confirms the initial diagnosis, Fulmer will go under the knife later this week. Fulmer and the rest of the Tigers are hoping that the injury is only a partial tear, with a much shorter timetable for recovery than a full tear. Fulmer will finish the season with a disappointing 3-12 record and a 4.69 ERA in 132 1/3 innings of work. Whether or not he's ready for spring training in 2019 will depend on Wednesday's diagnosis and subsequent recovery plan.
