4 years agoMinnesota Twins starter Michael Pineda looked crisp in his spring debut on Saturday against the Red Sox, despite the game being called due to rain. Pineda retired all six batters he faced in two scoreless innings, recording four strikeouts before the rain started coming down hard. The 32-year-old right-hander's fastball was clocked at 91-92 MPH, his usual velocity, and he had some great movement on his slider, a pitch that yielded a 46.2 percent whiff rate in 2020. Pineda owns a career 18.7 K-BB percentage and has posted opponent batting averages under .250 in both seasons with the Twins. There's obvious health risk here, but Pineda still has the same swing-and-miss stuff, making him an interesting late-round choice.--Tim Capurso
