Michael Pineda Hit With 60-Game PED Suspension
5 years agoMinnesota Twins right-hander Michael Pineda was suspended for 60 games for violating MLB's drug policy on Saturday. Pineda, who was coming off an excellent 10-strikeout outing against the Cleveland Indians on Friday, will begin his suspension immediately. He tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic normally used as a masking agent. The suspension means Pineda will not be able to participate in the playoffs and will also miss the beginning of the 2020 season. Pineda is the third Twin to be suspended for drugs since 2015, joining Jorge Polanco and Ervin Santana. With Kyle Gibson already on the injured list, Minnesota will probably have to dip into the minors to fill Pineda's spot in the rotation.
