4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Michael Wacha was impressive in his intrasquad game start on Thursday. He threw 65 pitches and faced 19 batters, allowing only one baserunner on an error. Wacha showed improved velocity during the truncated Grapefruit League season so Thursday's outing builds on expectations of a bounceback for him. With the season-ending injury to Noah Syndergaard (elbow), Wacha is assured of a spot in the Mets rotation. In 2019, Wacha posted a poor 4.76 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 126 2/3 innings pitched for the Cardinals. As such, despite holding down a rotation spot, Wacha is really only worth a look in very deep leagues as a spot starter option. Of course, if Wacha can continue to build on this progress and mitigate home run issues he had last season, his value and fantasy outlook may increase.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
