4 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Michael Wacha earned his first win of the season on Friday, tossing six shutout innings and striking out nine in an 8-2 victory over the Yankees. Wacha allowed just one hit and two walks in his best start of the season, as he lowered his ERA to 4.20 and now has 20 strikeouts in 15 innings. He has shown an uptick in strikeouts over the past few seasons, going from a career-low 18.5 percent strikeout rate in 2019 to 23.7 percent in 2020 to 32.8 percent through three starts this year. He's got a couple of good matchups coming in his next two starts, as he will face the Royals (26.2 K%) and Athletics (25.7 K%) that are ranked the seventh and 10th highest in the majors respectively.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
