Mike Fiers Dealing With Back Injury, Rotation Spot In Jeopardy
7 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Mike Fiers (back) has been less than stellar this spring, to put it mildly. The veteran righty has been touched up for 12 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings of work and has issued eight free passes as well. It's not what the Tigers were hoping for out of Fiers, but there appears to be an explanation. Fiers has been dealing with a stiff back all spring, which manager Ron Gardenhire described as "a little bit of a bulging disc or something like that." Fiers is slated to be one of five starters for the Tigers but his injury could open the door for Matthew Boyd or Daniel Norris, each of whom are fighting for their own place.
