5 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Mike Fiers was roughed up in his second Spring Training start Friday, allowing five earned runs in two innings pitched. Fiers walked three and struck out just one in the contest while allowing four hits. Veterans like Fiers often use Spring Training to work on things without worrying about their numbers, so there's not much we can take from this one Spring start. Fiers even said after the game he was working on his slider, a pitch he threw just one percent of the time last year, and that the pitch isn't where he needs it to be. Regardless of this start, Fiers isn't a very attractive fantasy option. His 3.90 ERA last season was very lucky according to his 5.19 xFIP and he averages less than eight K/9 for his career.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
