Mike Tauchman Breaks Hitless Streak With Three-Hit Game
4 years agoNew York Yankees outfielder Mike Tauchman broke his four-game hitless streak with a three-hit game against the Orioles on Friday. A small sample size and some bad luck have combined to give Tauchman an exceptionally odd profile; his o-swing (27.2%) and swinging-strike (11.4%) rates are up while his z-swing rate is flat compared to last season, but his strikeout rate is up only 1.3 points and his walk rate is up 2.2 points. Tauchman’s power has also been sapped as he’s posted a 24.6% hard-hit rate so far this season, making him a singles hitter with a .263 xBA and a .350 xSLG. It’s hard to see Tauchman turning his performance around significantly before the end of the season even if he has suffered from some bad luck (especially with his hard-hit rate trending in the wrong direction), but last season’s success means that Tauchman should still be on the radar of fantasy managers.
