Mike Zunino Might Have Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays skipper Kevin Cash said that catcher Mike Zunino (shoulder) could be dealing with thoracic outlet syndrome. He will receive a Botox injection that has helped other players in similar situations, and he will need three to six days to see if it makes an impact. Zunino was hitting an ugly .148/.195/.304 with five home runs, 16 RBI, seven runs scored and 46 strikeouts in 123 plate appearances over 36 games before landing on the injured list, but it's possible his shoulder was the culprit. There remains no timetable for his return, and there's a chance that the 31-year-old could need surgery that keeps him out for the rest of the season. Francisco Mejia will remain the primary catcher with Zunino out, with Rene Pinto backing him up.
