7 years agoSeattle Mariners catcher Mike Zunino will have the day off for Thursday's matinee against the A's, per mlb.com. It is simply a breather for the team's everyday catcher who has been swinging the bat a bit better lately. Over his last four games, he is 4-for-14 (.285) with one home run and three runs batted in. Zunino is a classic swing-and-miss power hitter with seven home runs this season and 40 strikeouts through 102 at-bats. The Mariners will need more consistent thump from their backstop in the coming weeks to offset the recent injuries to Dee Gordon, Mitch Haniger, Nelson Cruz and the suspended Robinson Cano. Backup David Freitas will get the start and catch Felix Hernandez in Zunino's place on Thursday.--Joey C - RotoBaller
