5 years agoSeattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger is on the bench for Tuesday's tilt against Jesse Chavez and the Texas Rangers. Haniger is scuffling at the plate over his last six games hitting just .167, so the day of rest could do him some good. For the year he's hitting a lowly .229, but has made significant contributions with 13 homers, 41 runs, and 28 RBI. The 28-year-old is striking out a lot more than usual with a 28.0% K-rate this season, so his average may not creep all the way back up to the .280s where he sat in each of the last two seasons. The power trade-off is worth the points in batting average, but don't expect Haniger to remain batting this low for too much longer.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
