Mitch Keller Departs Start Early With Apparent Injury
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates right-handed pitcher Mitch Keller was in the midst of a second consecutive impressive outing Saturday against the Cubs when he was lifted in the third due to an injury that looked to be to his left side. Keller allowed five hits and two runs across 2 ⅔ innings, although he danced around trouble in each of his two clean frames. Long heralded as Pittsburgh’s premier pitching prospect, Keller has settled in in 2020 after a tumultuous first taste of the big leagues in 2019. Chris Stratton took over for Keller, and would presumably man that spot in the rotation if the 24-year-old is unable to make his next turn. With Jameson Taillon and Chris Archer already down due to injury, the Pirates rotation is grasping at straws to keep it’s collective head above water.
