Mitchell Trubisky Getting First-Team Reps In OTAs
2 years agoPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been taking first-team reps in OTAs ahead of veteran Mason Rudolph and No. 20 overall pick Kenny Pickett. This isn't terribly surprising, considering Pickett is a rookie and Rudolph is an even bigger longshot to win the job, but it is still worth noting as Pittsburgh has one of the few uncertain starting quarterback roles heading into the season. The 27-year-old Trubisky was signed to a two-year contract worth $14 million, and for the time being appears to have the inside track to the job. However, with the combination of a relatively low financial commitment to Trubisky and the first-round draft capital spent on Pickett, the Steelers could have a short leash on making a switch. It would be surprising if Pickett started Week 1, but even if Trubisky wins the job as expected, his handle on the role could be highly dependent on the team's record after the first few games of the season.
