MLB, Players Union Can't Agree On International Draft

2 years agoThe MLB Players Association rejected the league's latest proposal on an international draft on Monday, which means the free-agent qualifying offer system that has been a drag on some free agents, will remain in place. The two sides exchanged four total proposals this month and were consistently far apart on the amount of money that would be guaranteed to future international amateur players. The gap never got closer than $69 million. With the current qualifying-offer system, teams lose draft picks as compensation for signing certain mid- to upper-tier free agents every offseason, which has suppressed the market for those players.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
