4 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Mychal Givens blew the save and took the loss on Sunday when he allowed two runs on one hit, two walks, and an HBP over 2/3 of an inning in a 7-6 loss to the Reds. Givens was given his first save opportunity of the season with Daniel Bard having issues closing out games for the Rockies. He entered in the top of the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead but hit Jonathan India to start things off. He then forced a groundout, allowed a single, and then got another out before walking back-to-back hitters. Both runs ended up scoring on wild pitches and that was enough to blow the save and take the loss as the Rockies could not mount a comeback in the bottom half of the frame. Givens now owns a 4.02 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 17:8 K/BB ratio over 15 2/3 innings on the season. He blew his first save chance but Bud Black doesn't have many high-leverage options to close out games. He should give Givens another look whenever Colorado has another save opportunity.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
