Mychal Givens Picks Up Save Thursday
3 years agoCincinnati Reds right-hander Mychal Givens threw a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 7-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. He was credited with the save, his first of the season. Givens has been impressive since the Reds acquired him at the trade deadline, posting five scoreless innings for his new team. The closer situation in Cincinnati has been in flux of late, with Heath Hembree struggling recently and Michael Lorenzen getting a save chance earlier in the week. Givens should start to see some looks as the team's closer going forward. Overall, he has a 3-2 record, 2.34 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts over 34 2/3 innings of work on the year.
