2 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (hip) has been dealing with right hip tightness that may have contributed to his reduced velocity during his outing against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday, where his average fastball velocity of 94 mph was the slowest in a start since 2012. Eovaldi still tossed five scoreless innings while striking out five and walking none, and manager Alex Cora doesn't think he'll need to miss his next start after an off day next Monday. His fastball averaged 96.7 mph in his last 11 starts. The 32-year-old got 14 swings and misses on Wednesday, but just one with his four-seamer. Eovaldi has been good this year with a 3.41 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched over 11 starts, but his hip tightness will be something to watch heading into his next outing.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
