Nathan Eovaldi Scratched, Josh Winckowski To Start
2 years agoBoston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (neck, shoulder) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to soreness in his neck and shoulder. In his place, rookie right-hander Josh Winckowski will get the start. Eovaldi still thinks he can pitch, so the injury doesn't appear to be very serious, but the Red Sox won't take any chances. The 32-year-old has been solid in his 18 starts for Boston in 2022, going 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.50 FIP), 1.26 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings pitched. Consider him day-to-day for now. Winckowski has gone 5-5 with a 4.69 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP and a 34:20 K:BB in 55 2/3 innings over 11 starts. He'll be in the streaming conversation on Thursday against the Bucs.
