7 years agoThe Washington Nationals could pursue free-agent starting pitcher Jake Arrieta given the relationship between owner Tom Werner and Arrieta's agent, Scott Boras. The Nationals showed interest in Arrieta during the winter meetings, but there has been no indication that the two sides have been engaged in active negotiations. General manager Mike Rizzo said he'd be comfortable with in-house options such as A.J. Cole or Erick Fedde taking the fifth spot in the starting rotation. Arrieta is two years removed from his Cy Young season in 2015, and he finished 2017 with a 3.53 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 30 starts for the Cubs. Boras and Arrieta are believed to be looking for a deal in the six-year, $160 million range. It's unlikely that he'll get a contract of that magnitude, but he appears willing to wait for the right offer.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
