Nationals Demote Tres Barrera

3 years agoThe Washington Nationals announced on Monday that they have optioned catcher Tres Barrera to Triple-A Rochester. The Nationals will be calling up top catching prospect Keibert Ruiz at some point today and Barrera loses his big-league gig as a result. Barrera held his own in 91 at-bats with a .264 batting average to go along with two home runs and 10 RBI. There is a good chance that Barrera won't be in Triple-A long and he could return to play behind Ruiz and Riley Adams when rosters expand in September. Although it's not clear how much playing time Ruiz will get, he is worth rostering in all formats with his potential at a tough position to get production from.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller
