3 years agoThe Washington Nationals signed free-agent relief pitcher Tyler Clippard on Saturday. The Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty later confirmed that it's a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to camp. Clippard pitched in D.C. from 2008-14, earning his only two All-Star nods with the team. The veteran right-hander operated as a workhorse setup man for the Nationals back then, posting a 2.68 ERA, 28.5% strikeout rate and 9.8% walk rate in 464 innings. The 37-year-old has 74 career saves in 15 major league seasons with 10 different teams over the course of his career. Clippard has a 3.13 career ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 in 867 1/3 innings, and he stands a decent chance to make the Opening Day bullpen as a veteran setup man, although he won't have much fantasy value at all.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
