New York Mets Scouring Free Agent Market for Catching Help
7 years agoDue to a season-ending injury to starting catcher Travis d'Arnaud and another lengthy injury to backup Kevin Plawecki, the Mets backstop depth chart has run thin. Currently, Jose Lobaton is being used as the starter with Thomas Nido being the second option. According to Jon Heyman of Fan Rag Sports, the Mets are now scouring the market for veteran free agent help. He specifically lists Miguel Montero, Ryan Hannigan, Geovanny Soto and Carlos Ruiz. While none of those four would make a huge impact fantasy wise, they would help shore up arguably the weakest catching depth in the league. Of the four, Montero might make the most sense for New York as he was the only one to begin the season on an MLB roster, albeit appearing in just four games with the Washington Nationals.
