6 years agoWith the fourth overall pick in the 2018 MLB Amateur draft, the Chicago White Sox selected 20-year-old middle infielder Nick Madrigal out of Oregon State University as a junior. Standing at 5-foot-7 and 160 pounds, Madrigal will have to prove that he can be a Jose Altuve-like player at his current height. Madrigal hit .395/.459/.563 with 28 runs, two home runs and 27 RBI in 119 at-bats in the 2018 NCAA season. Madrigal holds scouting grades of 65 hitting, 40 power, 60 running, 50 arm and 55 fielding on the 20-80 scale and has the potential to be a future leadoff man for the White Sox. The White Sox rank fifth in MiLB.com's Position Player Farm System Rankings. However, they are lacking infield depth, as they only have two infield prospects in their top 10 prospects, with third baseman Jake Burger at No. 8 and catcher Zack Collins at No. 9. With Yoan Moncada looking to be the long-term plan at second base, the White Sox could look to turn Madrigal into a shortstop, which is what he played in college. The White Sox are a couple of years deep into a full rebuild now, and Madrigal could make an impact very soon in the majors due to the lack of infield depth.--Caden Inaba
