5 years agoHit on the left wrist by a 91 mph fastball from Phillies starter Cole Irvin on Friday night, the bell tolled for Nick Markakis on Saturday, with Atlanta putting the 35-year-old outfielder on the injured list after x-rays revealed a fracture. Prior to the break, Markakis was slashing .284/.358/.429 with nine home runs, 55 RBI, and 57 runs scored over 104 games. A model of durability, the 13-year veteran has only missed 11 games since joining the Braves in 2015 but is now hitting the injured list for the first time since 2012. With the severity of the injury currently unknown, it remains to be seen if Markakis will be back before the end of the regular season.--Nicklaus Gaut - RotoBaller
