3 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was expected to be the starter in Monday's Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays, but that will no longer be the case after he was pressed into relief duty in Boston's 6-4 extra-inning victory Sunday. Pivetta came on to start the top of the 10th inning, and he was the only pitcher manager Alex Cora needed the rest of the way, as he battled through four shutout innings with only three hits and a walk allowed. He struck out seven batters, and was the benefit of some good luck in the top of the 13th to earn the win. He's unlikely to appear for the rest of the series, though heavy usage is no guarantee of rest in the playoffs.--Doug Goldring - RotoBaller
