4 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Nick Pivetta was sharp in his season debut, throwing five scoreless innings in the team's 11-2 win over the Rays. Pivetta showcased the increased velocity he teased in spring training, consistently hitting 96 mph after averaging only 93.2 mph in 2020. On the other hand, Pivetta was inefficient with his pitches on Monday, throwing 92 pitches in just five innings while walking four. There is undoubtedly room for improvement for Pivetta going forward, but this was a great performance for a team that desperately needed it.--Daniel Fox
