3 years agoChicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner (hamstring) went through a full range of baseball activities on Friday, manager David Ross said. Hoerner has been sidelined since sustaining a left hamstring strain in the sixth inning of a 4-3 win over the Pirates in late May. There is no timetable yet as to when Hoerner will return, but his progress is encouraging. Prior to hitting the injured list, the 24-year-old had a .338 average with 25 hits and three RBI in 74 at-bats. It was also reported on Friday that Hoerner's teammate Matt Duffy (back) is having a follow-up appointment with a doctor on Saturday as he recovers from a lower back strain, which should excite fantasy managers given the third baseman's improved performance at the plate this season. Hoerner is the more attractive fantasy asset and is rostered in just 15 percent of Yahoo leagues. Infielder Eric Sogard has been filling in at the keystone of late, but he'll likely move back to a utility bench role when both Hoerner and Duffy are back.--Chelena Goldman
