Nico Hoerner Starting On The Bench Against Marlins
2 years agoChicago Cubs middle infielder Nico Hoerner is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins. It will be Hoerner's first game off in the last 27 games, so he'll get a much-needed breather. The 25-year-old has been a solid contributor at the plate for the struggling Cubs, hitting .292/.335/.412 with six home runs, 33 RBI, 33 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 340 plate appearances and 89 games. With Hoerner starting on the bench, rookie Christopher Morel will get the nod at the 6 and hit eighth in the batting order on Friday against Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera. Morel is hitting .260/.333/.455 on the season with nine homers, 29 RBI and nine stolen bases in his first 65 big-league games, but he's gone just 13-for-59 (.220) with no homers and four RBI in 18 games over the last 28 days.
