3 years agoNew York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard (elbow) pitched one inning in a rehab assignment for Single-A Brooklyn on Thursday, allowing a leadoff home run and also hitting a batter. Syndergaard only threw fastballs and changeups in his one inning of work. Following the game, Syndergaard revealed that he has been instructed by doctors to not throw any sliders for the rest of 2021. They believe sliders are what caused his setback in May. This would also suggest that Syndergaard will shy away from throwing any curveballs for the remainder of 2021, due to a similar torque on his arm. If Syndergaard doesn't suffer any more setbacks, he could potentially rejoin the Mets in September and get work out of the bullpen. That said, Thursday's news certainly calls into question how effective he would be simply throwing (and disclosing that he will only throw) two pitches. Even if he returns in September, it is likely Syndergaard will have very limited work and will not generate much fantasy value.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
