Optimism Surrounding Joe Musgrove Deal
2 years agoThe San Diego Padres and representatives for starting pitcher Joe Musgrove have recently resumed talks about a long-term contract extension, and multiple sources said there is optimism that a deal could be completed this week. Musgrove has made it clear he doesn't want to continue talking through the final months of the season and is willing to reach free agency if a deal isn't reached soon. The 29-year-old right-hander made the All-Star team for the first time in his career by going 8-2 with a 2.42 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 102 strikeouts and 23 walks in 104 innings over 16 starts. He's unlikely to give the Friars a hometown discount, but the Padres probably don't want to lose him in the midst of a career year.
