3 years agoToronto Blue Jays shortstop/third baseman Orelvis Martinez, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has been emerging as the "next big thing" in Toronto's organization for a few years now. Martinez led the Jays system in 2021 with 28 home runs and an .895 OPS in 98 games with Low-A Dunedin and High-A Vancouver at 19 years old. He continues to develop at 20 years old and his 6-foot-1 frame has filled out well. The eye-popping power is mostly what the Blue Jays believe in for the future, and he also made strides to cut down on his high strikeout rate last year. Martinez's defense is a work in progress, but his arm strength is plus, and he's expected to continue splitting time between shortstop and third base in 2022.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
