7 years agoOn Thursday, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said that he expects a new contract with quarterback Aaron Rodgers to get done soon. Gutekunst said that both sides were actively working on it. Gutekunst also said that one reason there has been a delay in reaching a new deal is that both sides are waiting to see if other quarterbacks like Tom Brady or Matt Ryan get new deals. This would affect the market rate for quarterbacks. Rodgers still has two years left on his contract and could conceivably be franchised fairly easily for another two years after that, so Green Bay has no reason to rush this. Rodgers would like a new deal that would make his salary more competitive with other quarterbacks around the league, and Green Bay seems eager to keep their star happy. There were some reports about the two sides growing further apart after Rodgers expressed disappointment that he was not more involved with some personnel decisions. However, these statements by Green Bay’s new general manager are surely a good sign.--Tyger McGuiggan
