5 years agoThe San Diego Padres have shown interest in Detroit Tigers starter Matt Boyd, per MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. No surprise here since seemingly half the league remains in playoff contention and views Boyd as an asset they can capitalize on immediately and in future years. The 28-year-old Boyd is amidst a breakout season with a 3.87 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 32 percent strikeout rate. He’s also under team control through 2022. It’s uncertain what the Tigers would require in return, but outfielders Franmil Reyes and Hunter Renfroe represent controllable power pieces that are already in the majors. The Padres are rumored to have interest in other starters including Noah Syndergaard and Trevor Bauer, so Boyd could just be another name on their homework checklist. Stay tuned.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
