Padres Expected To Option Robinson Cano
2 years agoThe San Diego Padres are expected to request that second baseman Robinson Cano be optioned to the minors on Thursday, whereupon Cano would likely decline, making him a free agent again. The 39-year-old veteran was cut by the New York Mets after he hit just .195/.233/.268 with a homer and three RBI in 12 games. The Padres took a flier on him, but he's been worse in 11 games with the Friars, going 3-for-32 (.094) with no homers, one RBI, one walk and 10 strikeouts. Cano hit well this spring after missing all of the 2021 season due to a performance-enhancing drug suspension, but it looks like he's run out of gas so far in 2022.
