7 years agoSan Diego Padres executive chairman Ron Fowler said that the team isn't planning on making big changes to their contact offer to free-agent first baseman Eric Hosmer. The Padres presented Hosmer's agent, Scott Boras, with a seven-year deal worth less than $140 million earlier this month, and the Padres apparently haven't budged from that position. Boras started the offseason seeking an eight-year deal for Hosmer for around $200 million, but the free-agent market has been lethargic, and Hosmer hasn't attracted much interest. The left-handed hitting first baseman tied his career high with 25 home runs in 2017, and he also drove in 94 runs while slashing .318/.385/.498 in a career-high 162 games.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
