4 years agoThe San Diego Padres placed first baseman Eric Hosmer (finger) on the injured list on Tuesday after he fractured his left index finger on Monday. Hosmer’s move to the IL is no surprise as the team expects him to miss at least a couple of weeks with the injury, though the Padres remain hopeful that he can return before the end of the season. Recently acquired first baseman Mitch Moreland is likely to start in Hosmer’s absence, though the Padres may still seek to sit the 35-year-old against southpaws.--Sam Chinitz
