3 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are not expected to make a play for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield prior to Day 1 of the NFL draft on Thursday, according to sources. The Panthers hold pick No. 6 and have been widely rumored to select a quarterback in the first round after holding multiple meetings with each of the top-ranked signal-callers. The team is waiting to see how Thursday plays out before considering other options. If Carolina does in fact select a quarterback on Day 1, it would certainly appear that Mayfield would be off the table. However, if they address another position with their first-round capital, then they would remain a very plausible destination for the 27-year-old former No. 1 overall pick. Battling through a shoulder injury, Mayfield finished 2021 with 3,010 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over 14 starts.--Dessy John
