Panthers Place Sam Darnold On Injured Reserve
3 years agoCarolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold (shoulder) was placed on Injured Reserve on Wednesday, meaning he will need to be sidelined for at least three weeks. Once it was announced that Darnold had a partial fracture of the scapula, it was assumed he would miss a couple of weeks, but now we know for sure. Ultimately, this doesn't change the value of any offensive player on the Panthers. Darnold had been playing so poorly lately that nobody had really maintained much value, and he's expected to miss the next four to six weeks. If anything, the long absence for Darnold may allow P.J. Walker to get into more of a rhythm to allow him to run the offense more smoothly, and he is clearly on the radar in two-QB leagues given his rushing ability and secure starting spot over the next month. We should assume the Panthers will rely heavily on running back Christian McCaffrey over the next few weeks, perhaps leaving enough carries for rookie Chuba Hubbard to make him relevant in the deepest formats if the team wants to take pressure off of their new QB.
