Panthers Sign Matt Barkley

2 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are signing veteran quarterback Matt Barkley, pending a physical, per Joe Person of The Athletic. Barkley, 31, has made seven career starts in six seasons for the Eagles, Bears, and Bills, completing 58.4 percent of his passes for 2,699 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions across six seasons. The veteran signal-caller is likely just quarterback insurance behind P.J. Walker- though it could also mean that Sam Darnold (shoulder), who is day-to-day, could be heading for an absence this Sunday. Walker completed 24 of 34 passes for 258 yards, one score, and two interceptions in a start last year against the Lions. He would likely be under center with Barkley backing him up if Darnold were to miss Sunday's game against the Cardinals.--Tim Capurso
