Panthers Unlikely Take QB At Pick No. 6
3 years agoThe Carolina Panthers are unlikely to use the No. 6 overall pick on Thursday to take a quarterback. The Panthers hesitation is due to the belief that nobody in this year's QB class is good enough to take so early in Round 1, so Carolina might be looking to trade down in order to secure a pick in the second round to take a quarterback. The Panthers were all in on trying to acquire Deshaun Watson this offseason, but he ultimately chose the Cleveland Browns. Searching for someone to at least compete with Sam Darnold is of utmost importance, and if the Panthers aren't in a position to draft a QB at the right spot in the draft, they could pivot and try to trade for Browns QB Baker Mayfield after the draft. UPDATE: General manager Scott Fitterer said there are a couple of quarterbacks he would feel comfortable taking at No. 6 overall, but he also said there are a handful of teams that are serious about trading up to No. 6.
