Patriots Trust Mac Jones To Sling Passes Downfield
3 years agoNew England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones is coming off his first win as a professional in Week 2, yet the largest looming question around the team's offense has been: Where are the deep shots? Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels reiterated Tuesday that the team "completely" trusts its 23-year-old signal caller to unleash passes downfield after an offensive attack that saw him complete 22 passes for 186 yards vs. the Jets. Of course, unveiling the deep ball requires a particular skill set from the pass-catching corps, something that New England is working through with new additions Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne acclimating to the mix. While Jones can likely remain on the periphery of season-long relevance for the next two weeks with formidable matchups against New Orleans and Tampa Bay ahead, he is yet to commit a turnover and boasts upside in droves if the Patriots' offense begins to click.
