James Paxton Scratched From Monday Start
4 years agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher James Paxton was scheduled to start Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, but he has been scratched for personal reasons. Ljay Newsome will start in his place. Paxton will still pitch later Monday in a simulated game. Coming off an injury shortened season in which he only pitched in five games, Paxton has pitched exclusively in simulated games this spring. Despite insistence from the club that there are no injuries involved, it does leave some cause for concern. Paxton sits safely outside the top-50 starting pitchers to enter the season, but a career strikeout rate of 9.9 batters per nine innings leaves room for him to provide value as the season goes on.
