3 years agoNashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne announced his retirement from the National Hockey League on Tuesday. The 38-year-old native of Finland played parts of 15 seasons — all with the Predators — after being selected 258th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Rinne won 369 games over 683 appearances. He was awarded the Vezina trophy in 2017-18 as a 35-year-old and was a runner-up for the award three other times. Rinne's numbers had noticeably slipped over the past two seasons and he entered the offseason as an unrestricted free agent. Juuse Saros stands to benefit the most from this announcement. The 26-year-old will now move into the role of undisputed starter for the Predators after six seasons with the club while mostly serving as Rinne's backup. --Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
