Pete Alonso Blasts Grand Slam In Spring Action
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso crushed a grand slam in Grapefruit League action on Thursday against the Washington Nationals. Alonso went 1-for-3 on the day, including the grand slam which was his first home run of the spring. Alonso did not hit a single HR last spring prior to a disappointing 2020 season in which he started off the campaign very slow. Alonso's HR on Thursday is, hopefully, a sign that he may be on the road to a faster start at the plate in 2021. If he can get off to a better start in 2021, a slash line of around .250/.340/.540, somewhere between his breakout 2019 and mediocre 2020, is a reasonable expectation for managers who roster him. Over a full season, Alonso should be a safe bet to provide managers with 40-plus HR and over 100 RBI, particularly with the newly bolstered Mets lineup surrounding the slugger.
