4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso, who had been red-hot since the beginning of September, now has just one hit in his last 17 at-bats after his 0-for-4 performance on Tuesday against the Phillies. Prior to this recent mini slump, Alonso had hit .312 with five home runs and eight RBI in 32 at-bats in September. Overall on the season, Alonso is batting just .216 with 11 home runs and 26 RBI. It has been an inconsistent, disappointing and frustrating season for Alonso and those managers who expended a high amount of draft capital on the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year. Despite the current slump, as we have seen time and again in 2020, Alonso can break out at any moment. As such, managers with no other high-ceiling options at first base should still remain patient with Alonso as we head down the stretch.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
