Pete Alonso Heads Into 2021 As Premium Home Run Option
4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was unable to rekindle the same magic in 2020 that he delivered during his rookie year in 2019, but that didn’t stop him from being a key fantasy contributor. Having mashed 16 home runs in 57 games, Alonso was on pace for a 45-46 home run year had the schedule been the traditional 162-game slate. While the 32-point dip in on-base percentage will raise eyebrows, Alonso continued to barrel the ball up (12.8%) at an above-average rate. With regression to the mean already built into his draft tag ahead of ‘20, Alonso shouldn’t fall much further down fantasy boards for ‘21, likely to remain well inside of the Top 50 with ample power upside.
