4 years agoAfter going 0-for-3 against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, New York Mets' first baseman Pete Alonso is now just 3-for-32 (.094) over his last ten games, with one home run and six RBI. Alonso had been starting to finally heat up when the Mets' season was temporarily postponed back on August 19 due to positive COVID-19 tests in the organization. Since the return from that temporary layoff, Alonso has done very little at the plate. Alonso is now hitting just .208 with six home runs and 19 RBI on the season in 125 at-bats. Alonso has posted an overall .227 xBA, an 88.3 mph overall exit velocity, and just an eight-degree launch angle against the fastball in 2020. These are all figures significantly lower than those posted by Alonso in 2019. His overall barrel rate is also down to 9.8%, a far cry from his elite 15.8% barrel rate posted in 2019. As a result, the metrics do, unfortunately, support Alonso's inconsistent season which is also devoid of the power output we saw in 2019. Nontheless, redraft managers should remain patient with Alonso, though it wouldn't be out of the question to sit him until he puts together a couple of games that show signs of life in his bat.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
