4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is off to a very slow start in 2020 batting just .180/.339/.240 in 62 plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. He has also struck out 20 times and has one multi-hit game this season. Despite the slow start, Alonso is confident he will turn it around. One of the issues has been his low zone contact percentage this season. So far in 2020, his zone contact percentage is just 69.4%, compared to his breakout rookie season where he had an 80.9% rate. This issue, combined with an overall launch angle of just 7.2 degrees and a 3.3% barrel rate, when he does make contact, is leading to his early-season struggles. Despite these metrics which support the poor start, it is just a 62 plate appearance sample and 13 games. Alonso should eventually break out of this slump, so owners in seasonal leagues with weekly roster lineups should keep him active. DFS and daily lineup league owners may want to wait for Alonso to start showing signs of life before paying up for him or placing him in their lineups. respectively.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
